The Selling Process for a Grooming Salon

process for selling a grooming salon business
1. Initial Contact

Reaching out is the first step. Send us an email or fill out the form below to express your interest in selling your business to Smoochie Pooch.

Both parties sign a Non-Disclosure Aggrement (NDA) to guarantee confidentiality, protect your personal information and ensure the security of any private details related to the sale or operations of your business.

A business valuation is conducted to represent your company’s total worth based on assets, earnings, and cash flow. Conducting a valuation allows us to assess the financial health and potential of your business in your local market in order to arrive at a mutually-acceptable purchase price.

We’ll visit your grooming salon location to make observations firsthand of the location and operations.

We will extend a written offer to purchase the business assets, with details pertaining to a closing date, offer deadline, due diligence, and other terms and conditions.

We work with you to ensure a seamless transition for the business owners, staff and customers. Time to take a sigh of relief!

Is Your Grooming Business Attractive to Potential Buyers?

Not every grooming business will be the right fit for our company, and sometimes we are not the right fit for your company. For example, Smoochie Pooch salons are operated out of commercial real estate locations with the ability to have multiple employees. This allows us to grow and meet the local customer needs while also providing growth opportunities to our team members.

Jacob and Trish Bowland

“I’ve been in the grooming industry for over ten years, starting as a bather at Bark Avenue after a messy divorce and health issues. I quickly discovered my passion for working with animals, especially difficult dogs, and trained in-house to become a groomer. When the original owner retired, I eventually purchased the shop, fulfilling my dream. However, just two weeks later, my ex-husband tragically passed away, leaving me to balance the care of our two children. At the same time, my boyfriend began having health issues, and after realizing the stress we were both under, I knew we needed a change…

I had been talking with Elli in one of the grooming groups and knew that Smoochie Pooch had salons in Indiana. I reached out to her and said, “Okay, I’m ready to sell, but I want to stay on and just groom.”

One of my biggest concerns during this transition was how it would affect our loyal client base. The shop had already changed hands a few times in a short period, and I was the one constant throughout all of it—jokingly, my “ugly face” was still there! I wanted to make sure my employees felt secure and knew their jobs were safe during the switch.

Smoochie Pooch made the entire process incredibly easy. They handled just about everything. I chose to partner with them because I admired how they were improving the grooming industry. They offer their employees amazing continuing education opportunities, and despite their growth, they still genuinely care about each of us. We’re treated like family. One thing I wanted to ensure was that our small shop kept its heart intact. Some of our clients feel like family to me—I’ve watched them become parents, and sometimes I know more about them than I probably should!

If you’re considering selling your shop to Smoochie Pooch, I want you to know that they are truly amazing people who care about you, not just the business. They work tirelessly to make the process as easy as possible. When you join them, you’re not just a name; you become part of an incredible family. Everyone in the company is there for you. I’ve made some wonderful friends—people I probably never would have met if it weren’t for Smoochie Pooch—and for that, I’m extremely grateful. They have a fantastic support team to help with any issues, whether it’s scheduling or client concerns. Every single person I’ve interacted with has gone out of their way to assist me, and I couldn’t be happier with the decision to join.”
